Is this a barn swallow.... If so you have my everlasting admiration for getting a good shot. These guys are fast and acrobatic and I tried several days last summer to get a decent shot to no avail....Tough shot and well done

Chris, James and Andrew for stopping by and commenting on this. It's actually a tree swallow and I think they are a bit faster than barn swallows. I fired more than 100 shots and got probably 10 or so keepers. Not too bad actually. I think that I hurt my neck a little bit after a less than 20 minutes photo session with these fast critters.

What iso are you using?

Nikon D200 w/70-200mm/f2.8VR. VR setting off. Hand-held.

200mm/f4.5, 1/2500sec, +0.7EV, ISO400, Continuous Servo mode, Dynamic Focus Area.

Man, the 2.8 lens really allows the fast shutter speed...awesome... Plus the grain is nill even tho ISO 400.... You manually focused..good idea. People don't know how hard this is to accomplish....Thanks for the info.
