I dont know if you intended to capture this, but the rock formation at the top of the picture looks like a face, or more like a skull. Pretty interesting.

I noticed that on the thumbnail as well. Viewed larger, you don't really notice it. Pretty cool. -Anthony

At first I didn't see it, but now that you've mentioned it I see it. I also noticed that the dark curving rock face on the very right side of the frame looks like a a couple of faces in profile. The upper 1/2 looks like Abe Lincoln, and then Lincoln's chin becomes the nose of a stylized face with a large protruding chin (Jay Leno maybe?)

This reminds me of those pen and ink drawing where they hide objects in the picture... like a pair of scissors in the bark of a tree, etc. It'd be fun to try and do something like that photographically.

Thanks for pointing out the skull... I hadn't noticed it otherwise.

Cheers,

Scott

The face that appeared in the thumbnail is why I clicked on it. Good title....because when it enlarged, the face faded away, like a spirit. Very interesting! What a neat place it looks to explore. Nice shot.

I agree with everyone else. The "phantom" face disappears when viewed larger just like the title implies. Great capture. I wanted to rate 7/7 but since you gave me one it would not let me reciprocate so soon. BAH! :)

This is a great place to explore, though I recommend a guided tour, as there are hot springs that create weak spots in the ice. It's called Maligne Canyon, and it's located about a 10 minute drive southeast of Jasper in Jasper National Park, Alberta. It starts as a reasonably wide stream at it's lower end, and becomes a slot canyon as you hike upstream. I believe it's solid enough to hike in December, January and February, but it's best to check with a tour company if you plan on visiting it someday.
