Montmartre

This shot intrigued me -- it reminds me so much of the scene I used to see when walking to the elevated train when I lived in New York (a lousy record shot of the street is here). I really enjoy urban "step-streets" (as we used to call them in the Bronx), and I like the way you've conveyed the feeling of descending into the city.

I would love to find out your technique for exposing in low light situations...it seems you've already mastered the art of exposing for light and darks in night photos. awesome folder!

i was in monmatre two days ago.. couldnt shoot in the night as i didnt have a tripod.. i have to say wow! i am just reliving the moment.. excellent composition

In a picure like this where do you, or how do you meter for your lighting?

Very nice shot with excellent metering. One thing is I'd like to have this without the car. A person or couple strolling down the street would be better but that is hard to plan for.

Yes, Niklas. I'd love the car would have been away too. Difficult to control everything out of studio.

Now, four years later, this street allows more parking, so there are more cars and the trees have grown so much that branches hide the houses.

About metering, it's a film negative exposure and a lot of digital darkroom work (scanning, retouching, ...).

This is a beautiful photo. I would so love to be able to take a shot of Montmartre such as this, to even take a perfectly lit night shot of any subject. Outstanding!

Aujourd'hui les arbres a gauche et surtout a droite on grandi au point qu'on ne peut plus refaire cette photo.
