i like it. a lot. tell me, what's the diff. btwn a 50mm lens and a 50mm macro lens? i have a 50 mm f/1.4, but i cant get it to capture subjects that small. Was there any way to improve the DOF, to see the surface deformation a little more completely?

The shallow DOF was the result of using extension tubes, which also addresses your question about macro. I used the $80 Canon EF f/1.8 with Kenko extension tubes to achieve the very close focus here.
