Porth Joke

davidclapp

One from the film days, this is a small beach in Cornwall just south of Newquay. These fantastic pools were topped by the loan walker who I couldnt have asked to stand and contemplate in a better place.

I was running around like a madman trying to get filter holders and my EOS 3 out of my bag before he moved. He stayed there for two minutes, enoughfor me to take only one shot with him in the picture. All the others after that didnt have the same appeal.

EOS 3, 20-35 f3.5-4.5, Velvia 50 for about a second f22 with a 0.9ND Hitec grad.

this is a real "clever beauty" David. I find these type of picture generally beautiful but boring. But there is a sense of direction here which leads to the man in the background. Smart!

As it's goin' about color and light it's very interesting...As it's going about composition, in my opinion it's very good as well, but a little bit narrow, I would like to see it a little bit wider:) good work!

Well it is easy to say that but I couldnt go back any wider as I would have to include rocks and footprints and it didnt provide the focus this composition did, but I know what you mean.

hey mate nice shot! i like the single person in the top of the frame, and this shot gives a really deep perspective, from the water almost at your feet to the low sun on the horizon. really nice shot!

Dear David,

May I know exactly where you manually focussed when you took the shot please? Was it around 1/3 from the bottom of the picture? I'm still learning. Just want to improve. Thank you very much.

I focused hyperfocally, I cant remember where on the lens scale as I dont have the lens, camera or tripod I took this with (come to think of it). Would probably say f22 at about 2mm away from the infinity mark on the 20-35 f3.5-4.5 lens I took this with. It gives a massive DOF at f22. I just used to set the camera like this for all landscapes. Anyway, thanks fot the comments and glad you like my shots.
