Actually, abstract ~ tone, color, shape and angles.

Thoughts?

Very nice lighting, tones and colors Dave. Just something about the angle or the way the grain hed sits in the frame that doesn't sit well with me. Don't really have a suggestion for how to change it though, unless possibly it was a vertical.

Jim, I do know what your refering too since I see it also. I had thoughts of a little more base but? The grain deviates to both a more vertical and horizontal plane. I realize something would make it a 7/7 but I can't figure out what that would be.

Joel, glad you like it as I do. Not perfect but I'm working on that part of it.

To me the image would feel better if the stalk was entering from the bottom-side and exiting at the top-side. However you obviously have a winning image here.

ah, here it is! Very nice lighting. Simplistic and yet meaningful.

 

I think I would like it in square format, perhaps? and showing the whole wheat to the end. I feel just slightly cheated without seeing the end of the head of grain.

 

Almost black background is an excellent choice.

 

PS: I was just viewing some rice paddies -- another grain that feeds millions. My friends are so precious!

 

Oh heck, I don't have any comments for improving this shot. It caught my attention, made me look, and I'm very pleased with what I see. Beautiful contrast, detail and simplicity. Works for me. If you were to play with it, of course, you could skew, but that's another image.
