Eyes, Will? I didn't touch the eyes. Should I have? I'm wondering if you notice anything that I PS'ed poorly? (I do ... but I'm a bit obsessive!)

Well, this was a statue ... and I used massive burning and some filters to get rid of the silliness that was surrounding him. Check back in a couple of days, Kim, and I'll post the original shot. Hearing that comment from you about my PS work is quite an honor, indeed! :-)

Wow, Pnina! Thanks for the pointer. I looked it up on Wikipedia, and it seems that Neptune and Poseidon are analogous. I guess that means that they are parallel, but from different cultures. There are photos at these Wikipedia links: Poseidon and Neptune. I guess that Neptune is the Roman god and Poseidon the Greek god. Fascinating! Thanks for sending me on that rabbit trail while I'm sitting at home at the end of a Washington, DC ice storm - lots of fun! :-)

Lou Ann, I think his fingers look a bit strange on the right side, another fun subject in PS. I enjoy seeing what I can accomplish in PS too.

Sondra - you picked it! :-) (I can't believe that it got past Kim!!!) I'll upload the original and then talk about what I did.

Okay - here's basically what I did: (1) Fixed the perspective and cloned out the flag (top right). (2) Decided that I really didn't like the background, so I went nuts with the burn tool. (I used the lasso tool to select the statue and then used the inverse selection ... isn't that kind of like using a mask?) (3) With the background still selected, I played with the color balance to add some red and magenta tones. (4) Realized that the lack of a hand on the right looked really dumb (!!), so I copied the hand from the left, rotated it, moved it to the right, and played with the colors until I got it to match a bit. I was never happy with those fingers.... (5) Went all the way around the edges of the selected area with a slight blur. (6) Added a bit of Gaussian Blur with quite a bit of grain. Voila!

Any thoughts about the *what* I did in PS? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Missed the hand - I was concentrating on the background! I think you improved it a lot from the original, Lou Ann. It's elevated to an "artsy" status now.

Lou Ann, well you are right it is the same God in a different mythology, thanks for the links, very educational! the hand is really bizarre, but I was as well concentrated on the whole.;-))

Lou Ann, I didn't notice the hand right away, so you must have done a good job with it! I like the magenta surrounding him, like he is heating up the air (or water). Fun to play around....nice work!!!
