Is the intensity the same in color?

I haven't seen the B&W version, but this is intense. Good portrait. It grabs me. It's sharp, interesting. You might try cropping off a little on the bottom, like up to the beard.

This one suits me far better than the desaturated one. He appears to have a bit of jaundice, by the yellow in his eyes, yet it so sharply contrasts with the rest of the colors --the white and black of his beard, the browns and pinks of his skin--that the contrast itself conveys an entirely different emotion that cannot be seen when desaturated.
