whydangle 0 Posted June 21, 2007 Graveyard fields is located on the Blue Ridge Parkway at over 6000 feet elevation. Because of this, it is often skimmed by the clouds. The name comes from a tumultuous history. When a forest fire swept accross this high meadow, the heat was so intense it burned virgin forest trees to stumps. Later, brush and undergrowth covered the stumps, giving the meadow the appearance of an overgrown cemetary of headstones. Thanks for looking!! Link to comment
lonebearimages 0 Posted June 21, 2007 Mark, this is a great shot, with superb light. I actually stopped at the overlook and took a two-hour loop trail hike through the 'Graveyards.' It was a beautiful day and really pretty country to wander around in, with some nifty waterfalls. It was mid-day, so I didn't really end up with any shots that I liked. Nice job! Cheers!
