bartimeus1 0 Posted February 2, 2007 I was shooting at the frozen shore. The sun had set some minutes before this - or so I thought, untill this final effect came... :-) I have adjusted minimally the tones and the contrast. I know that this is just another sunset image, but somehow I also like it. What do you think about it? 3/3 or something like that? Thank you for your opinions! Link to comment
dgp 0 Posted February 2, 2007 surely this is a landscape shot? great shot but not even remotely close to a fine art image! great colours, nice idea that works well, great stuff, keep it up! DG. Link to comment
arash khoshghadam 0 Posted February 2, 2007 A very striking example of balance through position (the twig on the golden mean), shape ( the irregular shape of the twig), value ( darkness balancing a large portion of lightness). The emphasis is powerful all the same; emphasis through contrast, isolation and shape. The analogous color scheme of the overcast clouds painted orangish by the sun is harmonious and invokes a great sense of calmness. the simplicity of the composition is eye-catching in my view, but becomes somewhat boring as the eyes run out of figures to inspect. You could probably include a silhouette of the trunk of the tree this branch belonged to. Your shot has no depth; nevertheless, The focusing performance is essentially eye-catching. David is right when he points out that this shot hangs between a landscape category and fine art style. this isn't considered a real defect, but for those who always categorize what they visually experience, this shot is a disappointment while other viewers including me may focus merely on the mood and aesthetic qualities of it, cheerfully tag it a great shot and a keeper for sure. dgp 0 Posted February 3, 2007 OK so I admit I was seething a little earlier about the "fine art" issue but I have a degree in the subject and I don't like things being misrepresented! sorry I'm a sad picky git!:) This image is a fantastic example of beaty in simplicity. clearly taken with an understanding of composition and the technicalities of exposure etc, etc.... truth is I really couldn't care less about the "rules", this is just a great example of the camera recording a beautiful scene. I'd be a happy man if I'd taken it and it's a refreshing example of the talent that is out there in between flower macro shots and the ubiquitous child portraits! thanks Alpo for giving me something to enjoy looking at! DG. P.S. maybe crop a bit of empty sky off the right side?! sorry man couldn't resist! Link to comment
