bosshogg 4 Posted February 2, 2007 Under the water, on top of the water, painting the water, watching the water, and a damn fool taking the picture of it all. Link to comment
Mike Marcotte 49,887 Posted February 3, 2007 This looks pretty good from where I'm sitting. This is a real interesting scene & should be seen LARGER. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted February 3, 2007 It appears that you are about the only one that has an affinity for this one. It has landed with a resounding thud. And you are right, it is better viewed larger, as are most PN postings. Trouble is virtually nobody will take the trouble to do that. At any rate, thanks so much for coming by and commenting. I have seen your name all over the place as I have "traveled" around Pnet, and do intend to get to your portfolio soon. Even not having done that, I have in my memory a great photo you did of some grain elevators, and I am remembering that from memory. (honest!) Link to comment
mmmee 0 Posted February 3, 2007 I followed Mike's comment here. This is a remarkable play in four scenes. Scene 1: horizon and clouds Scene 2: the sparkling water and boats Scene 3: the rocks and waves breaking over them scene 4: people painting the remarkable scene and oh yeah Scene 5: People watching the painters and then there is the photographer, somewhere behind it all. Nice 'decisive moment' shot. Nice seascape! good light and composition. lots of interest in the shot. Right now, I think PN has everyone standing in their own space wondering why no one comes by to look. And when we do come by and look, and comment, we get one out of 10 returns to our portfolio. We all have to get OUT more! Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted February 3, 2007 I couldn't agree with you more. I think if you look at my statistics, you would agree that I give as much or more than I get. There are a number of very good photographers that at times I have followed, and commented upon, but if they seem disinterested in an exchange, then I usually drop them from my list. I do not wish them ill. But because there are so many other Pnetters out there who do great work, and do wish to interact a little I would rather spend my time exchanging ideas with them. That to me is the value of Pnet. Link to comment
dberryhill 3 Posted February 4, 2007 This is a lovely scene that you've captured beautifully. It has a serenity to it I really find appealing. I like that you included that white border of clouds along the top. And I like the gull. My first reaction to it was that I never see anyone out painting in my part of the world, even though there are some lovely landscape scenes. I think we have become too utilitarian, maybe too 'busy'. I would imagine here that the couple on the beach would be thinking "why don't those people get a job and do something useful?" Hopefully, I'm being a bit harsh, and am just not in the right places at the right time. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted February 4, 2007 It is an interesting question you pose as to why you do not see people painting scenes in your neck of the woods. Through your photos and others I know that there are plenty of good subjects and scenes. I think the sea has always been a draw (no pun intended) for painters and artists of any type, as has the coastal environment been a nurturing ground for the artists. That may explain some of that. Thanks for the comments. Link to comment
