Karl, good image, interesting light coming from 2 sources, from the outside through the window and from the inside by the fire. Interesting again to see an atmospher and life style so different, with basic needs that enables surviving. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Pnina, I have the privilege to shift between different worlds, some which are necessary for surviving and others which allow living... Karl

Another great image Karl. You always seem to capture the right moment. I am a great fan of both your Pakistan and panorama portfolio.

This is my favourite of the motif. Astonishing low-light performance, a very good available-light photo. Just enough shadow detail on my (bright) monitor. Did you fill the shadows selectively with masking ? I ask because I could imagine even more atmosphere when parts of the wall, the distant parts around the window would be a tad darker

Carsten, the original of this photo is very dark. I used the shadows/ highlights tool overall and added later a bit on the man. Now I am learning to process and convert RAW files. This one I converted directly from the Zoom Browser to TIFF format before processing.

Later this evening I will post a photo (sepia) which I first processed in Digital Photo Professional. It is quite amazing what the camera is able to produce but for me processing in RAW and converting is still quite confusing. Today I have submitted two questions in the EOS Forum, but I think I am even not able to ask the right question.

Kind regards. Karl

Karl, you bought a Ferrari and drive with automatic gear shift ;-) I mean, every digital camera makes the conversion of linear sensor data (that is RAW !) for you, even the 5D with its picture styles and presets. DPP is GREAT if you want to reproduce from RAW what you know as landscape setting style, for example. DPP with landscape curve should do the same as the 5D when shooting jpeg. But you can decide afterwards what is the best choice, if you have RAW. I use DPP and Capture One LE for conversion, sometimes both when I want to get the best possible result. Sometimes I convert RAW to DNG and then convert with ACR from PS CS2. I have tested many alternatives, including Lightroom, but this is the top three IMO

Thanks Carsten, slowly slowly some of the abbreviations start having a meaning for me, others still not. But I just discovered where one of the gear tools of my Ferrari is. Perhaps this will not immediately improve my driving style but I see there is potential for it. Karl
