Matt Laur 2,201 Posted January 31, 2007 A German Shorthair (Deutsch Kurzhaar) hunts in a January ice storm. The lens hood was a much appreciated accessory. Thanks for looking. Link to comment

Matt Laur 2,201 Posted January 31, 2007 Micki, if you don't get a bird dog out to do something, she'll find something to do on her own (and that's not good!). There's just nothing better than shooting over one of these dogs (camera or shotgun!) in their natural element. The good news is that putting all of that energy to work forces you to get out into all sorts of great scenery, even if there is a photogenic quarter-inch of ice all over everything. Link to comment

Matt Laur 2,201 Posted February 2, 2007 Thanks, Don. Looking at your shots, I do indeed see another German Shorthaired Pointer (or, a Deutsch Kurzhaar, or a Braque... they go by many names in different countries). The one you shot is "patched and roan" in color (the one in the shot above is "ticked and patched." You'll also sometimes see them in "solid liver" (dark brown). They are wonderful, challenging animals. Link to comment
