Torrance Shoreline-Twilight

LenMarriott

Exposure based on sky area above bright horizon line. (about 1 sec. @ f11) Area in lower left treated with 'Shadows\highlights' feature in PS to brighten the snowy patches there. Best, LM.

Great clours and composition, Len! I particularly like the placement of the grass in the lower right. Again, it's not spoiled by unnecessary use of an ND grad (like I did). I love colourful shots like this!

Greg, Considering your penchant for saturated colours your views come as little surprise. :-) I've 'corrected' this one but may well end up printing the version you see posted here. I, too, kind of like it. Best, LM.

Babis, The light was 'controlled' through patience plus some minor tweaking in Photoshop. Thanks for your comments, I see from your portfolio that you are no stranger to fine images. Best, LM.

Dave, Thanks for taking the time. Much appreciated.

Jack, I did enhance the brightness of the bottom LH corner to keep it from becoming a black blob. I'm pleased with the way it reveals just a hint of the snow there.

Leslie, The colours are a bit 'over the top', that is, a bit richer than the original scene, but I too like the result. The water, begining to freeze over, was still wet enough to provide me with a 'soaker' when I stepped too close to the edge. No Problem, the last shot of the day, we were leaving anyway:-) Best to all, LM

Keith, Thanks for stopping by. Yah, colours are a bit over the top for some types of scenes but here I think I can get away with it. Best, LM.

Peter, This place is about 100 miles north of Toronto, On., a few miles west of Gravenhurst, near, (where else?) Torrance. Greg & I have been there two or three times. Worth the effort. Best, LM.

Hi Len,

Lovely shot! I've taken a few (although not posted here on PN) from the exact same place. The Barrens is on my favourites list. I don't suppose it has anything to do with the fantastic road going there.

I must get there sometime at night. Being a dark sky preserve, the stargazing is premium.

Cheers,

Brian

Thanks. We all get lucky sometimes. :-) I've been to the Barrens a few times now though, as time passes & I get older, summer, spring, fall would be my choice times to visit there. The road you mention, while paved, can indeed be a bit of a challenge, especially if you aren't paying strict attention to driving. (cell phones, fiddling with the radio, looking too long at the scenery, etc.) And the scenery is VERY close to the edge of the road. Watch out for the snakes (Massassauga Rattlers) See my 2004 folder. Best, LM.

Len, sure the image is richly saturated. but refects a short snapshot of time in many sunsets when these rich & unusual colours appear for a brief time..if a image is visually pleasing & a pleasure to view than that is the goal of the game. You have captured our northern landscape perfectly. Thanks for your comments on my autumn image.I have three other lense & if I had to decide on one lens, my 10-22 mm would win hands down , love its perespective especially on close ups. Regards Ross

Thanks for the validation. Right place, right time, & Velvia. Great combo for some satisfying photos. No exotic lenses though. Just one of my few primes. The only zoom I have is entry level; of questionable quality, OK for some types of shots, (family and ones where sharpness is not of prime importance), but not for serious sharp landscapes. Best, LM.
