Well, Bill, this shot sure grabbed my attention. Likely because of the unusual setting. The background is not as OOF as I would like and the bird doesn't stand out that well; one could also argue that the rock is competing with the bird for attention. That's applying the usual standards though and that's not what this shot really imparts on me. Birds need to protect themselves from predators by blending into their environment, and that is very well captured here. I like the colors, focus is spot on. Just as a suggestion, I would try to remove the green leaf and see how the photo looks then; I am just not sure if it adds to the image or not. Would also try some blurring of the background, just to see whether and how it changes the overall appearance. None of this is meant as a critique; I just like this shot and am suppressing the urge to experiment myself a bit with it. The fact alone that I have been looking at this image for a couple of minutes may serve as a testament that I think of it as a very interesting image. There aren't that many bird shots I would hang around the house; this one would be high up on the list. Regards, Dieter PS: I need to learn how to make frames like this.

Nature never ceases to amaze. The birds colors are varied yet mimic it's surroundings in an amazing way. Both the rock and tree have such similar

colors it makes for a perfect exception to the standard "rules" . Of course I am assuming you didn't alter the background :) Wonderful catch, beautiful focus.

My favorite ant eater. And not very easy to see on the ground. Hawks and falcons leave it alone because all the ant venom builds up in its flesh and it is not very tasty. Excellent shot! Great focus and cropping. No mprovements needed.

Dieter, this is the bird that you can find in your area out near the cliffs by the Deveruex school. Go for it!
