Great photo of "small" scene. I am only slightly concerned about shadowed tree in left; is it slightly too dark... Otherwise I like it a lot. No rtaings, a s l a

Len,

This one is without the magenta cast. Was this from the same roll?

How much did you crop from the original image. The scene has another mild, soothing and serene feel.

Asla, Thanks for responding to my critique request. Your own portfolio deserves a deeper inspection which I will make very soon. I neither seek nor give ratings, preferring instead to leave a comment to justify my feelings about any given photo. As for the dark tree, it's quite possible that I underexposed this scene a tad. Either that or it's fallen outside the dynamic range of this film. Greg McCracken, my shooting partner that day, has a version of this scene taken with a digital Pentax which shows a much broader range of tones. http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=5486809 Best, LM.

Arthur, This one was taken on the same roll as the magenta heavy other I have posted. I have expressed my feelings about the magenta cast in that post. Very little, the minimum that I could, has been cropped from this one. For all intents and purposes it's as composed. Mild, soothing, and serene? Thanks for the validation. It was certainly quiet (no cars or people) and calm (not windy) that day. Felt good! Enjoyable shoot. Best, LM.

A very pretty capture of the scene, Len! Great colours and the patch of sunlight on the mid ground grass is getting appropriate attention. I think there is enough interest in the clouds in the sky to not be concerned with the size. It would make a great print!

Greg, I think I still like your version better. I'll work on this one a bit more before I decide whether I'll print it or not. Thanks for your opinion. Best, LM.

Hi Len, from your last uploads, this is the better one for me. I don't know, what is causing the strong violet color at the others, the velvia film? it does not look naturalto me,more oversaturated, while this one is a nice natural corner.

If you will be able to open the dense shadows on the tree( left) it will help.Colors are very nice, especially the warm colors in the cold hues in the water in FG.

Pnina, After comparing the original slide to the scan I think the problem has multiple roots. The original slide is not quite as magenta rich as the image posted. Probably some bias from my scanner as well. All the colours come out a bit oversaturated to my eye. Perhaps some work required there. As for this one, I worked on the dark trees & got a bit more detail in there. Must be cautious, using a light touch, as too much manipulation causes noise distortions. Thanks for your thoughts. Best, LM.

Len, I would agree with others. This is nice and gets my vote, especially with-out the magenta cast one normally finds with Velvia 100F; I've had horrible results with longer exposures. This image has nice color and dynamic range. The colorful bushes and the ice are interesting and help anchor the image, however, I'm not sure I like the crop. Have you considered alternates? - Sean

Sean, I do like Greg McCracken's version better. We both photographed this scene just minutes apart, he with a Pentax K10 and me with Velvia 100f in a Minolta XG-M. Check out his portfolio. What would you suggest as an appropriate crop for this one? Best, LM.
