mmene 0 Posted January 28, 2007 I like the sharpness, the white color of the snow and the mood of the scene. Bravo Alpo, nice spot. Link to comment
fraxavfer 0 Posted January 28, 2007 The elements that you present eloquently here are simple yet together they form a narrative that is both rich and subtle. What we have here are a tire-marked road, the shadow of a sign on the road, a snow bank, the lower part of a frost-covered tree, frost-covered bushes, and a warmly-lit house. The sign, which is most probably a street sign, almost has the shape of a hockey stick, and its shadow beautifully brings together the nostalgic poetry of those impromptu street games of years gone by, with the sense of location - and thus belonging -that only a street sign can convey. The tire marks are marks of passing, serving to confirm the multiple rushings up and down the cold snow-covered surface of a boy's world. Snow banks are always mountains to the young person's imagination, and there are indeed mountains separating one world from the other. Ah, but that other world is definitely present in this picture. The tree is shrewdly cut off, so as to emphasize its earth-bound ties; its branches form intricate connections from the world of memories and boyhood zaniness to the world of the hearth and family. One of the windows is nicely veiled by white filigree branches, thereby confusing the two worlds for an instant; but the other window is illuminated like a beacon in the night, giving you all the bearing you need to find yourself again.
