Another shot taken while wandering around Virginia Beach with Regina. Not to copy Sarah's style ... well, um, yes, I have to admit that I am blatantly copying Sarah's style. So, low marks for originality for me on this one, huh? :-) I don't mind. Sarah's name came up while we were standing around photographing this thing on the side of a building. "This looks like something that Sarah Underhill would shoot!" And we all shot it. :-)

Any additional thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :-)

I know, I know, it's RED and I'd have been right there with you gals shooting away. Not only is it red but it's a graphically interesting "triad". I also like that you've choosen to leave the white above the tan color, it adds a nice design element to the composition.

I'm with Susan on this...the three spigots are interesting themselves, then you throw in the vibrant red against the neutral tan and then add the cap of white...visually interesting all around. And yes, this does remind me of Sarah's work and that's great...she has an eye for bold color and simple yet interesting design/composition. Well done.

HA! I thought 'I would shoot that-' Great find....love the texture of the wall....

I think it's good we work w/ other people's styles...we see things in new ways. And no 2 people are alike, and no 2 photographers are the same.... it's all good.

BTW, I really like the shot!

Hi Lou Ann,

I think you nicely captured this interesting looking structure. The symmetry is interesting, as are the colors and textures.

I know this is not a Rorschach test... but... when I first saw your image I thought of some alien toy I might have had when I was a kid. Not unlike something you might expect, say? from a Star Wars creature.

I can relate to this. It looks quite simple but its a nice shot with good light and a good composition. I like the use of the extra neutral space/neutral color at the top to balance the strong red color.

So you have given me ideas for my sprinkler. Only I need to go back and shoot mine in better light. I have no nice neutral colors so I added more red top and bottom to try to achieve a balance. I don't think it works any where near as well as this one of yours does.

PS: Thanks for leading me to the photo of the woolly beast in our museum, with your last high rated photo.

Hello, M.M.! I need to ask how you found me ... do you remember? I was surfing something (I don't remember what) the other day and marked your portfolio as "interesting", which is my way of reminding myself that this is someone I want to come back to ... I love your portfolio ... lots of color and lots of variety. I'll definitely come back to it. My life is in upheaval right now, but within the next couple of months I will be spending more PN time.

I'm also glad that you followed the link to my high rated photos ... I didn't know that anyone ever did that but me. :-) I love looking at what another photographer marks high ... it helps me to learn more about them. I'll look forward to more shots of your sprinkler. Regards!

Hiya Lou Ann

Of course, you have answered your own question above, about how I have found you. The good ol' interesting people list. :))

Sorry to hear your life is chaos right now. I like my own that way, but its not for everyone. I expect the summer months will give you sometime of your own in a few weeks, so do not worry about seeing any old stuff of mine for now, just take care of the number ONE; and it will all be smooth sailing when that is done. But YOU know that.

Take care Girl

MM

PS: I use the high rated photos very often to find interesting people.

The red sticks out very nicely against the beige wall, of which the structure helps adding depth and detail - in my opinion at least. The shape of the subject is interesting too, of course - an instant classic. I rarely rate images 7/7, but this one deserves it!
