danielleetaylor 1 Posted January 22, 2007 Very nice shot. I think one improvement would be to have a completely black background. The colors made by whatever was back there distract from the shot. (Not a lot, but a little bit.) Link to comment
lesa jones 0 Posted January 22, 2007 Thanks Daniel for your input. Most of the shots I do in my makeshift "studio" do have a solid background, and for some reason I did not do it for this image. I thought it interesting and different than my usual work, and thought some of my regular visitors would think so too. But thanks so much anyway, and I will definately keep that in mind if I attempt a shot like this again. Regards...LJ Link to comment
williammccarey 0 Posted January 23, 2007 I think the orange/red background radiating out from the petals looks interesting. It mirrors the petals in curvature and adds another element to the "gravity" theme as they slide downward in the background. They also add a supporting color for the stamens. A pure black background, I think (and what do I know about still life...zilch) would produce a static shot of a pistil with a water drop. I wish you would use a mat and frame to offset these lovely shots you have. Link to comment
fergi 0 Posted January 23, 2007 Lesa, Apparently, I am not in the same league. You captured this flower's beauty and allure perfectly. Plus, and I may be off my rocker, I think it NEEDED to have the background it has; the state of its own environment. I like that it is not in front of a black felt backdrop, but it feels more alive this way. A black background would have done nothing to enhance the drop of water. The soft shadows bring out the droplet. Great macro, again. fergi Link to comment
tee 0 Posted January 23, 2007 Its funny because I love the orange in the background. For me, it gives the photo more depth and I love depth. Link to comment
mvisionphotography 1 Posted January 23, 2007 When I see the flowers on a black background I just pass on through them as they just look well... kind of fake. When I see one in a setting like this I see the beauty of the flower because it mirrors the colors of the background. the red in the background mirrors the red in the center and brings it out more. It does give it a more 3D affect and makes you feel as if the flower is closer to you on the screen of your computer. I feel like the water is about ready to drop. I think this is one of your best works Lesa! lesa jones 0 Posted January 23, 2007 Ah Shucks...I am soooo flattered by the intelligent and thoughtful inputs. You all, fortunately, put more effort into comments than I do into composing some of these shots. I am TRULY flattered!!!! Your comments energize and motivate me to keep going and improving. Thanks so much to you all...regards..LJ Link to comment
