Very nice. The atmosphere is great here. The castle silhouette standing out in colorful sky is very nice. The swirling water among the dark stones adds a lot of drama to the scene. Do you mind telling us what you did to this photo that merited you not clicking the "unmanipulated" box? Thanks, and great work.

Dont I always, I reckon photo.net sends an emailed message to the same people when I post a picture, so they can log in and stuff my chances. It has happened ever since I posted my third picture. It is really worth a 3/3 isnt it. I should have just doen it with a camera phone and thrown all my gear in the sea. Regarrding the 'unmanipulated' box that is exactly what it is si I suppose it should have been ticked, contrast, saturation and an overall levels boost to make the image stand out. I havent read the guidelines regarding this so I never tick it.

David, if all you did was boost the contrast and saturation, you should have clicked on the "unmanipulated" box. The fact that you only made those minor adjustments makes this all the more impressive.

I just got nailed with two 3/3 ratings on my last shot after getting a handful of 7's and 6's to start with. I think I am on the list as well.

Regarding this shot again, I believe this is one of the very best I have seen on this site - and I do not say that lightly. This is truly great. Very impressive.

Thanks Daniel, I will take what you said on board and thanks for the coments. The main thing is to keep posting I guess, I just want people to look at my portfolio really, there is no other way of getting others to see your work than this rubbish ratings game.

David, love the black rocks and the long exposure! It gives this landscape and the castle the mystique to complete a very well thought out composition. It's hard work and great work here.

The fact that the foreground rock is so relatively large and has such detail adds a huge amount to the image, IMO. Your composition is perfect, and the DOF is outstanding. This is one to be very proud of.

Great composition and light. The foreground is particularly well done, I'm a sucker for wet rocks surrounded by misted water. The sky is overblown in places near the horizon, perhaps a reverse grad may have been better than a straght NDG. You could probably fix this using lightroom or cs3 at the RAW stage by using a darker exposure then lightening the mids & darks. I think I'm also in your esteemed 3/3 club.

yes you did, I deleted the shot because it go so badly nailed by the 3/3 squad I just reposted it.... and then it got nailed again so I reposted it..... and then it did slightly better but not much. I personally love this shot.

David,

this is an excellent shot and i have to say after attemtping to get a similar photo after 4 or 5 visits I am quite jealous! I've had either yellow/orange sky with no clouds or rain, not the beuatiful skys you've capture here. Having said that your composition is brilliant and much superior than my attempts regardless of the weather.

Regarding the 3/3's yes i've also had the same experience (and also felt that the same people mysteriously knew whenever I'd posted). The solution i guess is just to tick 'comments only' when you post. I find it saves a lot of frustration in the end.

I love how the slower shutter speed gives a foggy texture to the water. And, you have enough color in the sky to nicely compliment thee rest of the photograph--very well done. As you said, that wide angle lens allows you to get that rock right up in the viewers face and makes a big difference (see my comment on your portfolio). Great shot--I like it a lot!

This is a wonderful image I saw today, and I think it is just great. I was wondering of ways to improve this if there is a second "gifted" chance of repeating. In such case probably use of a graduated ND filter just to tackle minor highlights in the sky I guess will work. Any ideas about my opinion.

Anyway, congratulations.

One of the great shots on this site. Hope you didn't get your gear wet. I love how the black rocks glisten. How did you decide on 8 seconds, or did you shoot in aperture priority?

David--In response to the comments higher up about the 3 ratings...while I understand "different strokes for different folks" and everyone is entitled to their own opinion, anyone who rates this below a 6 (much less a "3") is jealous and needs their head examined. This is a great shot. Don't listen to the jealous crowd...they are just bitter. If I were you, I'd have enough confidence in this shot that if 100 people rated it as a "3" I'd just think that the psych ward had gained access to photo.net. No rating(s) should shake your confidence in this shot!

I rarely comment on landscapes but this one is worthy of looking at the detail and beauty of this shot. THe depth of field is unbeleivable the strong sense of distance and mystery of the rocks. Keep up the work, and congradulations.
