Hi Lesa

I like your shot first of all for it's graphic elements; The sagebrush there in the lower 1/3 represents a fuzzy object which is balancing a large less complicated area ( balance by shape). The continuation of optical movement transferres the visual importance along the furrows on the sediment rock to the sky displaying the horizontal clouds which are in nice contrast with the diagonal furrow lines. Your shot has captured an appropriate proportion of the sky with the blue color standing complementary with the orange-brown rocks emphasizing the color definition in the sediment. the choice of vertical frame has been a wise one since the visual flow in this shot is mostly vertical. your shot invokes the feeling of loneliness and bleakness of the place in me making me want to visit the place. The only drawbacks which are miniscule are: a tiny bit of the next sage brush is winking at me at the right edge. You could have steered a little bit to the left to avoid it or later clone it out using clone tool. Another problem: I think you had focused on the sagebrush causing the horizon to blur out a bit. it's not something eyesore but when studying the shot element by element, it shows up. I think you could have used the hyperfocal distance to achieve focus in all focal planes.

Thanks so much Arash. Your input is thoughtful and very educated. I learn so much from other members who take the time to share insights of their knowledge and experience. After reading your critique, I now, more than ever, wish to return to Arizona and attempt this image again. Thank you again for your honesty and candor. Regards....LJ

I can picture this as a square crop, eliminating the sky altogether and making an abstract from the rock/brush.
