Welcome to the North Pole

lallisig

Was at the right place at the right time, taken around 1 am after midnight, the orange light from the left is from Reykjavik and this is not a heavily manipulated image, just selective curves adjustment to increase the contrast as the scene was pretty low contrast to begin with as is usual with photos taken at night in the countryside.

I was in February last year 1 week in Iceland, and I have not seen anything klike this. (Any polar light) This is exquisite, I love the stars. Have You made them? How long was the speed? Thanks Jana

Since a couple of you ask how this image was taken, here it is :)

Camera settings were 30 seconds, f2.0 and iso 1600. Image was then darkened in raw processing stage. Scene is totally low contrast so I had to do a curves adjustment on the sky and foreground seperatly, very slight dodge/burning and that?s it.

I put some more info over at DPC since this was entered in a challenge over there, here is the link -> http://www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=429294

No photo manipulation other than the essential basic "digital darkroom" really. Stars are authentic, neither added or took away a single one.

Thanx for all the comments guys, I really appreciate them, this is one of my favorite images of last year!

Larus, you've captured the magic. The road gives such an interesting perspective and a path for the eyes. Congratulations . Thanks for sharing how you took and processed this image. It's a great help . Regards. Denise

One can wonder if this impressive place really exists. Some people eventually gather that 'no, it's too beautiful to be', so accuse you of manipulating. I trusted and thanked nature the first time I saw it. Thank you for bringing it to us.

PS: It would be interesting to see a 100% crop of this, to get an idea of what kind of ISO performance the camera has. In this small format, it looks impecable.
