aepelbacher 0 Posted January 15, 2007 Yes, those are Christmas lights wrapped around the posts and across the decorative iron thing between the posts. :-) I almost captioned this one "P". LOL!! So - I tried this in color (the bridge of the ship has golds and bright whites in it), but the sky just didn't work. I also have finally discovered how to use the crop tool to adjust perspective, so I tried it out on this shot. It is SO much easier than using the "transform" commands in the "edit" menu. Does the perspective look fake? How do my levels/contrast look in the B&W? Are the lines and other miscellaneous "ship" things distracting? Any other thoughts and comments are always appreciated! aepelbacher 0 Posted January 15, 2007 Does a ship count as a "vehicle"? Any comments or ratings are appreciated! Link to comment
lbattjes 0 Posted January 15, 2007 Hi! The perspective works just fine, as does the use of B&W. The tension lines don't really distract me, but that's just my opinion. I do wonder, though, if it may have been better compositionally if the wheel house had been either all to one side of the stack or with slightly more on the left. As it is with just a little bit showing, my eye is drawn there. Just a thought. Leslie Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted January 15, 2007 Ahhhh.... that makes sense, Leslie! Thanks for pointing that out. I never thought of it. You're right, though! Thanks! Link to comment
alberto.conde 0 Posted January 17, 2007 In spite of the wheel house's windows being cropped out I like the compsosition and the decission to convert it to B&W. I love ships and all kind of vessesl (all of them, indeed, vehicles) and this image takes me back years. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted January 17, 2007 Interesting, Alberto - I didn't think about the wheel house windows. Let me look back at the original image. I do think that there's room for a wider crop there. I was only thinking about getting close to those posts. Thanks for the visit! Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted January 19, 2007 Okay - I'm back. :-) Now I've had some time to play. First, the original image. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted January 19, 2007 And now I'm wondering, Alberto, if this crop works better for you ... with more of the wheel house windows showing. With the railing, it's hard to pull all of them in. Thoughts? Link to comment
alberto.conde 0 Posted January 19, 2007 Well, Lou Ann, upon seeing the original shot I would keep the full frame and simply work on boosting a bit its gorgeous colours. The wheel house and its railings are essential, IMMO. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted January 19, 2007 I like it ... and think that maybe I ought to have left the railings in. :-) Funny ... the entire ship (maybe next week when I'm back at home I'll upload a wider shot of it) has those railings on about 3 levels and it's a bit gaudy looking ... but just around the wheel house they do look nice. I'm going to play some more! :-) Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted January 23, 2007 I prefer the colour original - nice evening feel to it. Or os it morning? Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted January 23, 2007 It's me, Colin - you know that this is a sunRISE shot. :-) Link to comment
joanbn 0 Posted February 4, 2007 Nice to give us so many choices. I like the original with the lovely colors. If you have a chance, check out my singles photos. We went for a drive around Chautauqua Lake, it was close to zero so most were taken as we drove by, but tried to find some that I thought you'd recall in your camping days at Chautauqua. Windows were pretty messy but toooo cold to get outside. Hope you enjoyed the snow when you visited Buffalo. Link to comment
