Wonderful Bill, I'm forever intrigued by these birds. Excellent feather detail, the texture of their feathers is usually so smooth they look like a solid surface. Beautiful color, exposure, focus and composition.

Very very nice; love the composition, perfect.

Have never seen a waxwing myself but have the feeling from seeing a few images that this is - like the Great Blue Heron (as William McCarey pointed out) - a hard subject to focus on; must be the real soft and smooth feathers.

I like that I can see the eye; the light caught in it is a nice extra; in too many waxwing shots the eye merges with the black band and is indistinguishable.

There is a small amount of noise in the image that should be removable but might be the residual from applying a noise filter already; I'm not sure.

I need to learn how to make frames like this, I like this one too. Regards, Dieter
