bjcarlton 0 Posted January 13, 2007 After a long break, I started looking back over my contact sheets, and, you know, I still really like film, especially medium format. Link to comment
alexander mandl 0 Posted January 13, 2007 Hello, IMO the crop at the chion - so that some parts of the chin are visible is a bit a problem. and I would also try a more diagonal composition - alex Link to comment
bjcarlton 0 Posted January 13, 2007 Interesting points. I'd never thought about the chin as an issue. Thanks for taking the time to comment. I'll just have to pop into my time machine and have another go at this session! Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted January 13, 2007 It is nice to see that you have made your semi annual post. And we are not even past January yet. This bodes well for a slavish Carlton devotees. I don't know if I'm just wierd when it comes to these upside down shots or what, but I always have this little voice asking if she isn't a bit uncomfortable hanging upside down like a slab of beef. No really! So after I get past that point (and I want you to know it has taken years of therapy with the famous photycratist Juan de Santa Ana) I find that to make sense of these I need to move to a different space and view with the abstract more in mind. Then I see bits and pieces of recognizable things, and all the tones that combine to make a pleasing series of shapes and depths. I love the abstractness of this image. And then we have the issue of the whitest portion of the photo running dead center top to bottom. Although the rule bound will not like that, I think it works well here. Film is, indeed, and interesting artifact. Link to comment
juan-de-santa-anna 0 Posted January 13, 2007 With all my 6 years of edukation....I have never herd of such a word....I googled it even...? I can't seem to find the meaning even in the dictioneary...Oh well.... At least I have this wonderful image to look at! I too sometimes have a probelem with images of women who are upside down...but mostly when it's on a multiangle diagonal...? this one how ever is perfect.... I see Alexandor's point about the crop but I am not convinced it would improve this image... I can only wait til David Mieyer gets his calibrator....hopefully he will go back and fix all of his critiques...I feel one of the strongest points of this image (besides everything) is how the lighter area is the road through this sensual image....I feel there is the right amount of detail in her clothes/ shadow area... I have recently been re-newing my faith in B&W film...realizing now how lazy digital photography has made me...as we get older we must strectch our brain cells more....The B&W process does that for me....but then so does looking up big words like those that David Mayier uses... But I have to agree with David on how nice it is when you post something new....OR....old... Dr.Juan de Santa ANNa OH... and yes I also agree with David on the fact that he is weired... bjcarlton 0 Posted January 18, 2007 Actually, though this is an old image, I developed five rolls of B&W film this weekend. Juan is right; there is a certain discipline to film, particularly where you have to convince it to go into the reels yourself as you curse in the darkroom. Way better than digital, especially the cursing part. I would have responded earlier, but I've been in DSL hell, having bought an "upgrade" from Earthlink which has resulted in mostly no service for the past 13 days. Link to comment
