This shot is unmanipulated and is the result of my second time out

trying night shots. This is taken at 300mm--the bridge is several

miles away and I'm zooming over the Charleston Harbor. Any thoughts

or comments are greatly appreciated!

Tyler, good exposure. The horizon is not level (lower on the right). The light reflections on the bridge are great. I did a horizon adjustment in PS

Thanks, Tom! Yes, you are correct...things were a little bit crooked. I had to reformat my computer and haven't finished cleaning it up before reloading photoshop so I had no way to adjust it. Actually my solution was I just got in my car at 11:15pm and rode up the road and shot it again. :) I like the new shots I got better...I moved the church steeples to the middle of the bridge and flattened the horizon/bridge. However, after studying things I believe my best shot will be if I get to this location shortly after sunset...there are actually creeks, marsh grasses, and docks in the foreground which don't show up right now but if I shoot shortly after sunset I think they'll show up and be nice foreground scenery...check back soon and you can see how the idea goes. Thanks for stopping by, commenting, and fixing my shot--I appreciate the effort and input!

This is the best picture I have seen of this bridge. This bridge kinda scares me. Like I have nightmares about it...weird I know. But it is a beautiful bridge. And this is a great shot. I love how you caught it at night lit up.

You know this place well, Lannie! This is shot from the James Island Creek Bridge on Harbor View Road. I went back a few more times and got even better shots...have to get them converted to JPEGs and uploaded. Stay tuned!

I look forward to seeing them, Tyler. I know that bridge well, although I never personally lived on James Island. I was born, however, off the screen to the left on the Charleston peninsula itself, where the locals like to say that the Ashley and Cooper Rivers come together to form the Atlantic Ocean. It is a thoroughly provincial place, isn't it? It's still nice, in spite of the ravages of uncontrolled urban growth in the 'burbs. I can remember when there were only a few homes on Kiawah Island--and a dirt road to get there from Johns Island.

The force of this shot for me is that my earliest memories of seeing the old Cooper River bridge come from seeing it illuminated at night as one comes down the peninsula on U.S. 52 from North Charleston. That would have been around 1951 or 1952. I know that I saw it long before that, but that is my earliest recollection of seeing it lit up at night. The lights made it seem so mystical. These lights do the same thing, but they are much brighter and the entire scene is much more dramatic.

This is great work.
