i wonder if i'd like it better if you had moved to the left so that you were higher up on the bank to position the sun lower in the tress. It also would have let you compose the frame with the person to the left and put the trail on a diagonal to lead your eye into the frame better. Just a thought, not sure if it would work or not. Either way, i like this photo.

Thaks for your thought and critique Dan. I appreciate it very much. I was limited to the position with the bank too steep and treacherous for me to climb on. It may

show here but the path is actually very narrow. Apart from that, I had little time to compose everything to my liking as the man was on the move and already going to disappear around the bend. The other guys were entering the frame from behind and I didnt want the frame to get busied up by other human elements. If This were a human less frame and in a remote place I would surely move around to find the best spot to shoot. I still belive the diagonal edge where the trees meet the path

has created continuation through lines that lead right to the primary point of interest ( the man) and continuing right to the brightest spot in the frame ( the sun ) I waited for the man to get to the position near the sun. These two balance each other with the man ( being dark ) placed near the center of the frame where emphasis reches its height. and the sun further away toward the edge. The sun has the advantage of being bright attracting the eyes and the man has positional advantage, so the eyes fluctuate between the two balancing points. In an esscence, i think all i wanted to do was try and amplify the effect that i couldnt really explain as clearly as you just did; everything leading to the subject. Either way, i cant deny that this is an exellent photograph expertly done. Was it film or digital?
