aepelbacher 0 Posted January 10, 2007 Do you like this crop? My goal was to focus attention on the man & his son, with the backdrop of the HUGE aircraft that they're looking at. Does it work? Is it appealing? Link to comment
steven_ej 0 Posted January 10, 2007 I think it "works" Lou Ann. On a bright sunny day there are some shadows mostly in the little boy where he gets lost a little bit of the shadow of the plane, I'm wondering if a little bit of fill flash could have helped. The composition is right on the money! If you took this shot without the aid of a human tripod then I'd say you're doing O.K. Link to comment
susan stone 0 Posted January 11, 2007 Again I liked the centered perspective you've chosen with this image, even though we're looking at their backs I can see the fascination the two have of the jet and it's as if the jet is checking them out too. And we thought our cars were fuel hogs....... Link to comment
sachinpatke 0 Posted January 11, 2007 Louann, love the perspective I get about the size of this AF bird because of the father & son infront of it. I tried getting to the show last year, but couldn't find the right parking spot to catch the bus from. Thanks for sharing. Link to comment
kcole 0 Posted January 11, 2007 Lou Ann I love the capture here, the son and dads matching hats both facing upwards looking at the gigantis aircraft is classic, great perspective here, What kind of plane is it? I saw on the news where around you has been perfect weather, I am so jelous, Hope all is well, Cole Link to comment
k5083 1 Posted January 11, 2007 Nice picture; might even work cropped a little closer, to get the son and dad even larger, preserve most of the C-130, but exclude most of the clutter near the left and right edges. I do very much like what you were trying to express. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted January 12, 2007 A closer crop, huh? Let me try a couple of them..... Link to comment
k5083 1 Posted January 12, 2007 Yeah, I think the last one might be the best. Hardly any clutter, you can see the dad and son clearly, and the plane looks that much bigger. Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted January 13, 2007 I like the concentration on the dad and son. I would think about cropping even closer to get them bottom left but your crop works well. Link to comment
LindaM 2 Posted January 13, 2007 hi LouAnn! i would like to add to the crop suggestions. although i really like the cross formed by your original, i think cropping a little closer and cutting out the woman on the left helps the eye move around the composition. my eye wants to follow that woman out of the frame. it might be worth cloing her out to keep the original coposition. AJHingel 127 Posted January 13, 2007 Dear Lou, you have once more used your marvelous photographical eye. I can see why so many crop the photo and I think the main message is that we all seem to look for a less complex scene concentrating on the man and the child in front of the war machine. The problem for me is that the composition, in my eyes demand not only to get closer to the couple, but to preserve the upper structures of the plane so that our attention moves upwards and not only bumbs against the nose of the plane. I have tried to shown what I mean by the attached crop, which, I admit, is not optimal neither. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted January 13, 2007 I love this! :-) Thanks for all of the crop suggestions. I can see merit in each of them ... improvements on mine. I wanted to show you all the original image, so that you see how much I cropped it before you ever even saw it. Thank you again for helping me out! :-) Link to comment
AJHingel 127 Posted January 13, 2007 I like the original ! Human beings take over ! Lou, how did you ever end up in an air show ?? Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted January 13, 2007 Oh, not IN the air show!! :-) Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland (just outside of DC) has one of the biggest air shows around, every year in May. It's a fabulous show. A friend of mine works there and she and her husband and I went a couple of years ago and spent a few hours looking at airplanes. Link to comment
