I was going through the rest of my images from last week and perhaps this is my favorite.

Comments welcome.

Mark: I kept your photo on my screen while I ate a snack...wanted to see whether I started losing interest. I didn't...and I asked myself why. This is what my mind came up with...your photo is foreground (blue shadowed snow and pine trees) and background (sunlit mountains). There is no middle ground here.

Now, I am going to assume you were not aware of this because you didn't say anything - just that you liked it. Important to know why we like something.

Taking a landscape like this is usually not done because it can easily spell disaster. The fact that every thing in the foreground is in shadow - absolutely no sun is filtering in- is what I think has allowed you to not only get away with this - but it is that which makes this photo interesting. THere is a real flatness to this photo - again not a quality one usually can get when taking a landscape with mountains in the background...something almost abstract about it. Hard to duplicate or shoot a series like this because the lighting conditions are so unusual. ken

Ken.. The reason this photo turned out the way it did was because i was standing well below the foreground. I used a TSE lens and shifted upwards and made sure the camera was level with the horizon. Because of the direction of the sun, my position and shifted lens, the image came out as it did. I have considered lightening the foreground in PS but did not like it that way perhaps sligh lightening would be better?
