Homestead in Engadin (Panorama), Switzerland

Does that background of trees act as a wall? what about the way you shot the homestead? Does that not act like a barrier too? Am I looking at too barriers to jump inorder to take in your photo? Is this fair?

A photo like this is always better when you show how lives there. That is what I want to know....I want to know who lives in this house! ken

Thanks Ken for your comment. This homestead lies in a narrow woody side valley of the Engadin in Switzerland, close to the Austrian and Italian border. The photo shows the northern "backgside" of the buildings. It was in the past the highest all year homestead in this valley. Now the shepherd family leaves this place in the coldest winter months.

What I like in this photo is the simple, typical architecture with subtle colours. It has many elements of the particular rural culture of this region. (In search of the soul...). The people here have curly dark hear, speak Romanch language, like jokes and the dogs have 75% of wolf's blood.

I shot the photo with high contrast setting of the camera. There is no processing except cropping and sharpening (150/0.3/0).

Unhomely to some, perhaps, this speaks of oikos to others. The seeming two-dimensionality of the scene is an effective opening to the four-dimensionality of the world ("earth-sky-gods-mortals").
