Interesting, I didn't know that egrets are that social. Backlit scenes with white birds are always hard to expose correctly; you managed a good compromise here and created a nice moody scene. I wonder if the birds could be brightened a bit more without loosing the light effect on the water?

The egrets aren't that social, from what I could tell. Every evening that I spent at Assoteague next to Shoveler's Pond, they would move into shallow water to feed. It was like clock work, the sun would be setting and the egrets moved closer to shore. They walked back and forth, stirring up small fish and prey.

One of the nicest egret shots I've seen. Your perseverance really paid off. The light is so subdued and warm, and the composition and bird behavior tremendous. Best regards.

Lovely exposure, lovely composition. Love the pattern that the birds form as a group and then the detail in each individual bird. This photo is a visual delight!
