jh de beer 0 Posted January 2, 2007 Taken recently on Robben Island - about 16km from Cape Town by sea. It was used to be a prison for political prisoners during the apartheid years in South Africa. A bit like the more well known Alcatraz - and this is also where Nelson Mandela spent most of his 27 year prison term. Link to comment
adan1 0 Posted January 2, 2007 Magnificent picture that is powerful and intense. The lone spectator contrasts sharply with the multitude in the photo as if someone is looking at history through a time window. Link to comment
Link to comment
Link to comment
About the picture: very good! I like its simplicity. Link to comment

lupine 0 Posted November 11, 2007 JH: I'd have to agree regarding the composition. Very nicely composed. I love the three very distinct horizontal spaces. I also love the fact that almost everything is straight lines and then we have the soft curves of the clouds. At first, I thought we were looking through a window and viewing something going on and in a sense we are in that the picture is a window into another time. One thing occured to me and it may not have been possible and that was to move to one side more and cause the angles to be even more extreme. Of course, I don't know what was off camera and that may not have allowed that shot. You may have other compositions and this may have been the best. Fascinating shot as is. Link to comment
jh de beer 0 Posted November 11, 2007 Thanks for stopping by Paul, amd for your comments. It was indeed impossible to get this from another angle, as I was still on the ferry coming into the harbour. This was one of those split second opportunities. Good to hear from you again.CheersJH Link to comment
