aepelbacher 0 Posted December 29, 2006 I spent some time in Old Town Alexandria the other afternoon. A few days ago I had noticed that many of the historical homes in this area (some even date back to the Revolutionary War era) had beautifully decorated doors and windows for the holidays. Not with lots of bright lights ... but mostly with pretty wreaths and greenery around the windows and railings. I'll post a few of the shots over the next few days. They're very difficult to "straighten" out because the houses are not straight, the streets are built on hills (going down toward the Potomac River) and the sidewalks and front door steps are usually crooked. BUT, since many of the doors are modern, they are level. So I tried to use the doors to help get the right perspective on the rest of each image. Any thoughts are most welcome! Link to comment

sky blue 0 Posted December 30, 2006 Very nice set of holiday doors, Lou Ann. I think this is my favorite but it's very tough to call. You've posted some beautiful holiday photos of the Capitol also. Have a prosperous new year. ~Sky Link to comment

colin carron 58,916 Posted December 31, 2006 I like wooden houses but my dear wife says they take too much effort painting them. Not sure about the choice of colour here by the house owner but it makes a great photo! Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted December 31, 2006 I agree - I could never live in a house this color! :-) Link to comment

dave_dube 10 Posted January 1, 2007 This is my favorite of the doors, partly, the addition of the upper windows. Other than the newer paint job, this one really shows it's past and the history of the area.Nice Holiday door presentation.HAPPY NEW YEAR! Dave Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted January 2, 2007 Thanks, Dave - I went back & forth about including the upper windows. Wasn't sure if I wanted to or not. Finally, it came down to this: I like to keep my uploads here to a 2:3 ration wherever possible. In order to include the entire door & window on the first level, without too much brick in the bottom, I had to include a bit of the upstairs windows. Happy New Year! Link to comment
