Doc, this is the best of the series, in my humble opinion! I really like the foreground sawgrass and the patio on the left. Excellent colors and reflections. Excellent composition as well, I like the pano feel! A 7/7 for me. Happy New Year! Cheers! Chris

Along the left side the foreground is merging with the middle and back ground. I trust you also tried a composition from a few steps to the right. Also, the horizon is very close to splitting everything down the middle, the reflections of the boat masts are awkwardly truncated. I trust you also tried a composition that competed those features.

The composition is a bit ungraceful, too cluttered on left, too open in the middle, the horizon splits the photo ia a rather formal way. The colors are gorgeous, and I love the sawgrass. Best regards, -Jim.

Thanks for the reviews--I really appreciate the outpouring of support and constructive criticism that this shot received. I was aware of several of the strong points of this shot and several of the weak features but also had several of each pointed out by your critiques so I sincerely thank you. To be honest, this was never supposed to be a photo.net picture--it was a snapshot on the way to my car because I wanted to take more pictures but when I got it home, cropped it, and did a little bit of toying around with the levels I started to think perhaps it wasn't so bad. My biggest limiting factor in this shot is that I don't have a super wide angle lens. Since the sail boats are relatively close to me I feel it would be tough to make a panoramic shot without the horizon near the middle without a super wide lens. I'm working on the lens... Also, I'm a bit limited to the right because there is a huge, beautiful, lovely CRANE building a dock...as much as I thought it enhanced my shot I decided to pass on it. I agree about the grass and would like to include a bit more--I didn't see it as being so important when I looked through the lens but now see it is a strong point. I see where the masts reflections should be included but as I edited this series (see my portfolio for many other shots from the same day) I found myself creating the same composition if I included the mast reflection. Also, I'm taking this shot standing on a boat ramp so including more foreground may also include the boat ramp. Nevertheless, rest assured I'll be going back to try each and every suggestion that was mentioned and trying to find away to make it work. As I said, this was just a one click shot on the way to the car...now that I see the composition has some potential I'll be going back to explore it further. Thanks again for all the help!

PS-Please don't ever rest assured that I've tried ANYTHING! I'm new to this and even when I get good shots I can't always put my finger on "why" they are good. Likewise, I can't always pinpoint the downfalls of the shots that do not work so ANY assumption about what I know or don't know are dangerous! :) Thanks again!
