manel_soria 0 Posted December 28, 2006 Leopards? What do you mean? Can you explain a bit more, please?I have been browsing your page, I think I agree with all that you say. Nice to meet you, regards. Manel Link to comment
birteragland 1 Posted December 28, 2006 These are leopard slugs Manel. They mate in the summer just before we get rain.It is very unusual to see this as it usually occurs after midnight, and in densely planted areas.First they construct a long sticky string which is attached to a branch, then then curl together like this at the end of the string, the female exudes her eggs and the male fertilizes them, although they are in the snail family so have both sexes(males turn to females, and females turn to males whichever suits them) Link to comment

bartimeus1 0 Posted December 28, 2006 Birte, congratulations for such a great and fragile macro-capture. Even though this is shot with the flash, the image has maintained the tender atmosphere and very good colours. Happy new year! Alpo Link to comment

cherlyn 1 Posted December 29, 2006 Most interesting subject & information. I thought they are some kind of plant from the thumbnail. Very beautifully captured, Birte, something that I have never seen. I hereby also wish you a Happy New year & all the best in all future endeavours. Link to comment

ge_ma 0 Posted December 30, 2006 El video que ha sugerido mike me parece impresionante. Entre la fotografia tan espectacular y el video se hace uno a la idea de esos leopardos tan desconocidos para mi. Gracias por mostrarlos. Link to comment
birteragland 1 Posted December 30, 2006 Thanks all for looking, and especially thanks to all who can see the beauty of these creatures. It had to be taken with a flash It was after midnight. Why some think its not appropriate for the critique forum I don,t understand. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted December 30, 2006 Hi Birte, I am not an expert, so if you tell us that this is something rarely seen I believe you. But that fact alone doesn't justify the high ratings it is getting. In my opinion it is not an aesthetic beautiful photo because of the way you used the flash, not the fact that you used it. You can see all tiny white blown out dots, probably because you used a frontal flash. Did you use a diffuser? If that doesn't work you could try flashing indirectly bouncing of a sheet of white paper. I believe you misunderstood Okan. I don't think he meant to say that this photo isn't appropriate for the critique forum, just that the high ratings are not appropriate for this photo. I agree with him on that. Best wishes for 2007.Jeroen Link to comment

bleedingashes 0 Posted December 30, 2006 Exquisite love story ,magical image, most romantic picture I have seen in a long time. You always fill my eyes with wonders, not only is this a masterpiece of nature, but also the mind that looks for it and loves these inspiring scenes so much. I wish you a year of beauty and success in preserving it. My admiration to nature and its angels like you. Thank you for your artistic and not just technical point of vew of what can not just be taken with equipment but with the heart. Link to comment
jan_piller 0 Posted December 31, 2006 Well if you can give high ratings for excellent timing, this image gets it - you've captured the very essence of the dance. If you can give high ratings for being in the right place at the right time with no diffusers or external flash or tripod and making the best of what you've got hanging around a dark garden after midnight, .. I could go on - I just think it's marvelous! Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted December 31, 2006 Hi Jan, So what you are saying is that given the circumstances you think this is a great photo? And what if you didn't know them, would you still think that way? I think a photo should stand on its own. It has to appeal, without me knowing the circumstances. I guess for you it is the opposite :-) Best wishes for 2007.Jeroen Link to comment
