kahkityoong 0 Posted December 28, 2006 Stunning macro. The subjects are pinsharp and the background is a beautiful colour. Link to comment
Dieter Schaefer 20,099 Posted December 28, 2006 I usually don't look at the ubiquitous butterfly images but this one really stands out. Very nicely done with a quiet background and tack sharp subject. Doesn't hurt that the flower is rather beautiful too. Link to comment
kahkityoong 0 Posted December 28, 2006 As a newcomer to macro, would you mind sharing the exposure details on this one Jerry? Link to comment
jerry ting 1 Posted December 28, 2006 Hi Kah Kit, this is not really a macro shot. The lens used here is a Nikon 70-280mm/f2.8VR lens + TC-17EII Converter. Here is the technical data: Nikon D200 with Nikon 70-200mm/f2.8 VR + TC-17EII. Exposure: 260mm/f5 at 1/350 sec -0.7EV. Handheld with VR setting on. Here is one that I do use a macro lens (Nikon 70-180mm f4.5-5.6 D ED AF Micro-Zoom-Nikkor). http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=4611607 I know that you are a Canon user and I truly believe Canon produces better optical lenses (than Nikon). I would suggest you to add a ring flash to get better macro shots. Here is an example that I applied a Nikon SB-21B ring flash on a Macro Nikkor 105mm/f2.8. http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=3280441&size=lg Link to comment

kahkityoong 0 Posted December 29, 2006 Thanks for your technical information Jerry, it was very useful. I use both Nikon & Canon and was planning on purchasing the 70-200mm VR. I actually have preference for Nikon glass. Certainly I would get more value with a telephoto on the D200 than a Canon 70-200mm on my full frame. Link to comment
