Guest Guest Posted December 29, 2006 This is very beautiful and probably quite difficult to produce. Do you have any more with the entire red bud in focus? I can't decide whether I'd like it better that way or not. Either way, this is quite good! Rachel :o) Link to comment
alpenglow 0 Posted December 29, 2006 So... exactly how close were you to that thing! I really like the selective focus and how everything except the focal point is just a blur of shape and color. Mike K. Link to comment
awhitt99 0 Posted December 30, 2006 Thank you Rachel and Mike for the comments. I did not have a shot where the whole bud was focused...it was getting late in the evening, and had the shutter speed down pretty low. I was surprised that this even came out so sharp. Mike, I was pretty close to this...the bud was about the size of the fingernail on your little finger, or smaller even. I did this last week while visiting family in Kentucky...and what struck me as odd, was that it is December, things arent supposed to be budding this time of year, but I suppose they have been having an unseasonably warm winter thus far. Thanks again for the input...it is much appreciated. Link to comment

portfolio_photo_frb 0 Posted January 3, 2007 Beautiful photo, nice colours, but I do not like the blur on the foreground, great shoot. Link to comment
j.k._york 0 Posted January 5, 2007 you have played the shallow DOF well in this composition, using it as a tool to the emergence of the bud. however, i'm not sure about the proximity of the subject to the blurred BG object. As I know you prefer honesty over backslapping, I think the two are too tight. I recognise the need to anchor the left, but think that a left crop and removing the BG object would work as an alternative. hope your New Year is off to a great start. best regards, J.K.
