Oooh, Dave, I had a good laugh. Where do you go for these shots, man? Do you have a JPS? That stands for Junk Positioning System. I think that the true resolution would be to paint the building with the same colours and texture as its surroundings, so it would just blend in and become invisible. Cheers, Micheal

Great idea, but I think they were going on the cheap. About 9 out of 10 of my last posts have been from two trips to Fresno. I have only limited experience with Canada, but my impression is that this part or the country is vastly different from most if not all of Canada. This central valley area was originally just a desert. They carved out the orchards cotton fields and vinyards from nothing. Because it was such a hard-scrabble existence, this is still a place where culture is late to arrive and flourishes with difficulty. A generalization that fits IMHO is that in these parts they shoot first and ask questions later. This is background as to why we have so much grafitti and why such a response can occur.

Thanks for the explanation, it does help in understanding more of what's behind it. Well, we have plenty of gaffiti in Toronto, as well. Mostly back sides of buildings (the older ones) and under the bridges. This picture combined with your title is funny, and you're right - you make a good point. Cheers, Micheal

Hi David...I like the grades of color in the building front...it is quite difficult to understand this difference (sun burned, half painted, ...?) in the middle of the height ?...regards, Laurent.

This is a rather seedy side of town, and grafitti is sprayed on anything that stands still. So the owner of this building apparently has adopted the policy of just spraying the whole lower portion, windows and all, periodically to cover the grafitti. Sad isn't it. Reminds me of us U.S. citizens giving up so much to be "safe" from terrorism. In both cases, it means the evil forces win. Pardon the political statement.

Indeed a great title. I guess one just gets to a breaking point.

But lets not forget the colors. Theres an even fullness to the color-range and white balance that is so pleasing to me. Perhaps the recent rains help to clear and saturate but I find the complimentary oranges and blues beautiful together.

Yes, of course, there was its own peculiar form of beauty which attracted me to it. The socio-political commentary was just icing on the cake.

I'm a little late on this one. I'll echo other posters and add that I like the side angle and inclusion of the pavement and kerb in the frame.
