tomlohrman 0 Posted December 16, 2006 Tyler, Nice shot. There does seem to be a bit of haze in the air though, but a very good effort just the same. Link to comment
yttergaarden. 0 Posted December 16, 2006 I like this very much. It is a very beautiful capture with great colours and light. Ok, the sailboat is maby a bit to centered and i also see the dust spots, but overall its good work. Regards LKV. Link to comment
j.k._york 0 Posted December 19, 2006 nicely done Tyler. the FG sea grass frames the boat well against the tree line. you really do sunsets justice. good subtle reflections and different textures in the water. sharp detail for low light. i would try and keep the mainmast from dead center of the frame. you want to emphasize the feeling of forward motion in the boat so you want a little more room in front than behind. beautiful shot my friend. regards, J.K. tylerwind 0 Posted December 19, 2006 Thanks for the reviews everyone--this picture has done better than I anticipated. I didn't think it would be as well accepted as the similar version with the palmetto tree as a frame but it has, which again confirms my belief that my best pictures are on CDs because I don't realize they are good! About the composition, I see the point about being centered but I have to give myself some credit--when I was looking through the lens this was a great, NON-centered composition. To the right there is a nice marina with boats, which makes great scenery. However, upon getting home, all I could see over at the marina is a huge CRANE, which dominated the shot. I cropped out the right side and that is when things became "centered." I have some compositions which off-center the boat and include the docks to the left (which you can't see here). I seriously looked at this picture and the one with the docks included (which off-centered the boat to the right) on 4 different days and each time I looked at the other thumbnail and thought "yeah, that one is better" but after I clicked on both it was blatantly obvious to me that this shot, although centered, was much more pleasing. I must admit that although I know it's a "no-no" I don't mind centered images at times. Maybe I'll try to post the other shot later to see what you guys think--I'd be interested to know if it's just me and my acceptance of centered images of if the other composition just doesn't work like it theoretically should. Regardless, thanks for the critiques and feedback--the comments were very high quality on this shot and I am very appreciative of them! Link to comment
cherlyn 1 Posted December 19, 2006 The layers of colour tones from sky to water + the foreground grass as frame does make a beautifully composed landscape. Link to comment
