hexenwolfe 0 Posted December 15, 2006 I have a huge grin on my face! Whimsical, absurd, but still totally true to the nature of the subject. From a creative perspective, I like the way you felt able to crop close to the bottom of the subject. The large area of empiness that occupies the top 2/3 of the image seems appropriate, almost as if it is space waiting for the birds to move unexpectedly upward into this space. The photo would not have had the same impact if cropped differently (say as a long narrow image, or with the birds more centered in the space.)This composition makes a statement about your confidence as an artist in that you were comfortable using space in the fashion. The image also would have lost a great deal of impact if the birds were moving left to right. The visual track or flow is from upper left to lower right, and the birds are moving "against the current" so to speak. This adds a factor of implied dynamic tension that is subliminal but very important to the overall success of the image. Link to comment
williammccarey 0 Posted December 15, 2006 Magnificent image! I like the subjects and the presentation. Exquisite! This might be my favorite now and "spring from ???" drops to a close second. I like your style! 7/7 anonymously. Link to comment
lbattjes 0 Posted December 16, 2006 I see you've gotten all your ducks...er, pelicans, in a row...haaaaaaa! :) The negative space at the top is great, but what I like most is that they remind me of some of my elementary students in line at school...can't keep their hands (beaks) to themselves. This cracks me up! Les Link to comment
fernando monreal 0 Posted December 16, 2006 Why you didn?t place the birds a little bit more hight in the frame they seem compressed to the bottom? f. Link to comment
kaushikphotography 0 Posted December 16, 2006 Excellent by all means. I specially like the extra black space in the upper part. Great croping Dear Friend. Kiss 'n hugs. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted December 16, 2006 Elsi, very sweet "caravan"..;-)) I like the negative space. A bit more space on the lower part would not hurt, but as is ,it is a nice find. Happy holidays my friend! Link to comment
jefvandenhoute 0 Posted December 17, 2006 Strong image and creative view. Beautifull light. Putting the birds at the bottom with a fully black space above them creates an amazingly strong composition Link to comment

Landrum Kelly 64 Posted January 10, 2007 Yes, Els, you are truly a natural blonde--but I don't buy the "dumb blonde" stereotype. You're no dummy, Els. You know exactly what I am saying: your work is vibrant and optimistic again, after a very moody period that I could not quite relate to. You are a creator, and there has been a resurgence in your creativity. I am so glad to see that. We reveal much of ourselves through our work, I think. Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but as beholders we also want to know what was in the eye and mind of the creator of the beauty, too. The meaning is never in the work of the art itself, only in the minds of the creator of the work of art, and in the minds of those who appreciate the work. I love your work. This one is good, but some of the others are even better. Here I see conformity, "people" (like birds) following their leader, perhaps into oblivion, as with our own Georgie Bush and his disciples. When I go back to your older work, which is equally good, I am reminded of the Simon and Garfunkel song, "So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright." In particular, I think of the line in that song, "When I run dry, I stop awhile and think of you." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Lloyd_Wright What a great portfolio, Els! Keep it up so that our children and grandchildren can read about you; i.e. publish! --Lannie Link to comment
