Waipio Valley (Best Large)

vincetylor

Located on the northshore of Hawaii. Shot at 17mm to get in as much of the scene as possible. Opinions are always welcomed. Thanks.www.hawaiianphotos.net/Kauaitours.htm

...and nice Velvia colors again! (see my discussion about Velvia your last photo post, the one of the cave thing.)

Hi Vince! I've been here, I've seen this view, and this is the way it looks. The color is outstanding. I would like to see the white highlights in the breaking waves toned down a bit; a little more detail down in those highlights would make this perfect. Regards.

Thanks Walter. I have actually toned them down before through Photoshop, but did not like how the image looked overall. It seemed to lessen the impact altogether for some reason. I will look a little more intensely to see what I can do then.

Yes Chip, this is where Velvia really earns its money. Greens and blues are its strengths. Greens and blues definitely dominate this image. I have always been a big fan of that film.

Mahalos to both of you for taking the time!

Hi Vincent. Beautiful shot with Velvia's captivating vivid colors. My only reservation is the naked twigs in the lower left corner which I think are distracting. The dark vegetation in the the upper left and lower right corner works well to frame the subject matter in the background.

Wonderful picture, Vincent. I like the extraordinary contrast between the blue and green colors. Excellent the composition. Regards, Pedro.

Thanks for the comments. I have thought about that bare branch for several years Michael. Perhaps one day I should just clone it out to see how it looks without. I do remember it being in the way when I shot this scene. Then tried to make it work for me by using it to anchor the bottom to a degree. And then after getting to the lightbox, it looked just fine as it is here. Overall, I think your opinion may be right on. Other than breaking up the greens and blues a bit, it has very little purpose. Though maybe that breaking up those colors IS a noble purpose.....

See, am confused again. I'll just have to clone it out to see. : )

Thanks again.

Beautiful view. It reminds me some beauty spots I have seen and shot in Martinique.

I wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year. Henri

The PhotoNet compression system is as worse as it as ever been. The LARGER view is really nice Vince! I did not have any thoughts about the bare branch until my attention was drawn to it by the above comments. But now, I think it would be good to see how it looks without the branch. This would leave masses of foliage diagonally placed in the upper left and lower right corners, serving to frame the shot very well. The sweep of bright green along the bottom would then continue uninterrupted into the valley floor.

Did you ever drive down that road that is, if I remember, out of the frame to the left of this view? It was marked "Travel at your own risk...4x4 ONLY"! I wanted to try that road and go down into the valley, but it was suggested that I give the idea up. Regards.

It's great to see that you're still shooting with Velvia! You really make me miss Hawaii. Merry Christmas, Vincent!

Vincent, Long time, no see. Your input on this site is being missed (by some of us at least) :-) I agree that this is a beautiful sight and if your goal, next to earning a living, is to promote tourism in Hawaii you've done it in spades.........again! Freezing my nubbies off in Central Ontario; maybe someday..........! Best, LM.
