tylerwind 0 Posted December 15, 2006 I snapped this image just as the sun ducked below the horizon with my old Canon powershot. This shot is unmanipulated. Any thoughts or comments are greatly appreciated! Link to comment
tylerwind 0 Posted December 15, 2006 I would be very interested to hear your thoughts on this shot. I got to sunset "too late" and just snapped this shot because I was there and then when I got home felt it turned out better than I anticipated. I did not manipulate it--I don't know how I got the saturation in the sky but I did. As I said, I used my old Canon Powershot 3.2 megapixel camera for this--I did underexpose the shot. How do you think it turned out? Do you like the composition? Do you think the boat should be darker so it is silhouetted or lighter so it has more detail? Would you accomplish that in photoshop or is there something I should do differently with my camera in the future if I have a similar scenario? Thanks for the expert advice! Link to comment
lesa jones 0 Posted December 16, 2006 Hi Tyler...this is a beautiful shot. It is amazing that you just did a point and shoot method, but amazingly sometimes for us amateurs that sometimes resutlts in the most imaginative photos. (maybe our inner creativity is unleashed without the technicals of the technicals?) Having already said that it is a beautiful shot, let me share some knowledge of a technique I have only recently learned of. I think I remember reading that you really don't like manipulating your images, but this new technique sounds sort of fun. It is something called HDR (high dynamic range). You take 3 images, best done on a tripod. You over expose one, under expose one, and one at correct exposure. Then enter them into a computer program, I think Photomatrix, is the name of one of the programs (which they have a free download trial version). The program then blends the 3 together. I have seen images done via this program and they are great. By merging them all together, the shadows will have detail and such. Anyhoo, don't know if that is your cup of tea or not, but if nothing else it gives you something to consider. Regards....LJ Link to comment
