Thanks crazyman. I figured you'd give me hell for the PS work, but I'm getting beat up so bad on everything else these days by the raters, that I thought I didn't have anything to lose. This is the wrong side of the tracks. It is west Fresno, and was the Chinatown in the early days. Still has some Chinese businesses, but now is mostly black and Latino. Can be a little rough sometimes. It was a fairly fruitful ground for some photos. The last four or so photos I've posted were taken there (not the Astro Motel) and I have some more I may post.

It's pretty easy actually. You need to adjust levels and use unsharp mask to your taste, and in this case I used the PS filter listed under "other" then "high pass". Be careful with this one because it can occasionally look great, but often be a negative factor and of no value, so cancel it if you are not pleased with it. I only try it because on one or two occasions I have been quite pleased with its effects. When I do use it, I almost always have moved the slider all the way to the right. After that, it is filter--artistic--poster edges. Play with the settings until you are happy. You may also wish to do levels one final time before you finish. Hope this helps. I'm sorry to say, I am not that much of an expert in PS.

Thanks for your comments and if you have any further questions, feel free to contact me either here or by email.

Cheers

I am using the high pass ocasionaly the same way as you but to sharpen an image, but I am staring from the left side and never go higher then 10. I like the poster effects of your picture and it is much better then the poster filter. Thank you again for the information ! Chaba

The PS work is really good here and the result is very graphic, almost poster-like. Do you have any background in painting (not houses; y'know, oils or acrylics) This seems to be organized as a painter might see it.

Thanks. I'm really flattered by your words, but, alas, I have no formal traing in the arts (except for a few photo courses) and can't even draw a stickman. I'm kind of surprised you would like this, not because it's not a scene that you would shoot, but from memory I can't think of any of your photos that are this heavily PS'd. Of course, your shots are so strong that they don't need to be enhanced.

Don't kid yourself, I need all the help that I can get. Looks like you posterized this. Whatever, it works and that's what counts. Let the purists munch on their cucumber sandwiches; I'd rather have some fun.

Great street shot, David. I really like the colors and multitude of signs and stone textures that make a very harmonious ensemble. The PS treatment enhances the whole scene beautifully. This is just the kind of shots I'd like to do but can't find any place like that here in France.

Thanks so much. I am currently in Montana taking photos, so hope to be back to more participation on Pnet soon. Just had a few minutes to check in and cannot take the time right now to check on everyone's latest stuff, but in a week or so, I hope to get back into the groove. Take care.
