dave holmes 0 Posted December 12, 2006 ...this is pretty darn nice!!! You weren't kidding when you said you were inspired. I like it a lot, from the way you positioned the bud behind the open lily, the DOF, and especially the fact that you used a non-flat-black background. That background has movement and energy! I think the jury is out on the diagonal of the shadow, maybe you want it there?? Great shot Dave Link to comment
lesa jones 0 Posted December 12, 2006 Hey Dave---First let me say a huge Thank You! (I should probably name some of these shots "Inspired by Dave 1 (2) (3), etc :)) I do a bit of oil painting and the backdrop in this shot was a canvas that I had begun a base layer on. I was experimenting with different angles of my $5 clamp light that has a 150 watt bulb--hey who says a studio has to be fancy?. I liked the angle on this one, and I just thought the shadow was an interesting element. Some may like it, others won't, oh well. I am still going through some of the other shots, and will post at a later time, so check back soon. Again thanks so much for kicking my imagination in gear....Regards...LJ Link to comment
dave holmes 0 Posted December 12, 2006 you're very welcome and thanks for sharing a shot to be proud of! PN I am sorry to say is filled with millions of flower shots all in the same boring studio idiom, same red rose, same black background, etc etc. -- great to see such inventiveness and good taste! PS I often use canvas as a backdrop, it gives texture and picks up the shadows well. Best regards, Dave (and yes my wife says I'm quite the character!) Link to comment
lesa jones 0 Posted December 21, 2006 An experiment with light. I thought the shadow on the canvas background (which I painted) was an element that added interest. Link to comment
