All comments and thoughts are greatly appreciated! This is a crop of

the other shot in the same folder with different post-processing.

Thanks for viewing my work!

Octavia, Jennifer, and Juan--Thank you so much for your kind comments and critiques--I appreciate you taking the time to leave them!

Jennifer--you're speaking Greek to me a little bit as far as histograms and things like that. I'm totally new to any type of post-processing at all. I have PS now but have not yet learned to use it. For this shot, all I did was increased the saturation and decreased contrast a bit (which I would guess is where I "lost my blacks") If you have a minute, compare it to the other similar shot in the same folder--that shot was processed by someone else (who obviously had more skill than myself!) I'll keep your comment in mind and probably get more value out of it as I learn to use PS. Thanks!

Wow...thanks SO much for all the comments! I believe this is by far the most comments and ratings I've ever gotten on a single photo! I'm certainly glad many of you seem to enjoy this shot. It's weird because when I shot it I was definitly not thinking "everyone will love this shot!" It was more like "that looks decent...let me just push the button a few times before I go home." Anyone have any thoughts on how this shot compares to the other similar one in the same folder? I did the post-processing on this one and I wasn't sure if it turned out as well as the other one. Which composition do you like? Thanks again for all the encouragement and comments--they are greatly appreciated!

Muting the contrast gives more detail in the shadows (boat hulls, for example). I saw the other shot, and there is something to be said for both presentations. In my opinion, the typical viewer wants every image to jump off the page, unappreciative of subtleties which come with a gentler treatment.

Nice work, Tyler. It's one of your best, I think. Ignore your histogram. Go with your eye. This preserves the soft look of dusk, but the masses will not always appreciate that.

I also like the nearly square crop.
