susan stone 0 Posted December 5, 2006 Are the red ones in the background "rosehips"? I like the focus and lighting on the foreground berries (?) with the softly fading DOF to the wonderful colors. An interesting "tangle" of graphic forms and textures. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted December 6, 2006 Susan told me about your images, so I had to come check you out. This is lovely, with the different layers and coloring! Link to comment

mmmee 0 Posted December 8, 2006 I have been back to this photo numerous times. I really like the DOF and the 3 different soft colors in the background. My eye is drawn to the top white area though. The one berry at the top does give my eye an exit out the top of the frame, but the crossing branches at the bottom entice me to stay and look. So, I did a slightly closer crop and wonder if it helps center my interest on the red and white berries, that are probably the subject. I really like the background best, though. :) Link to comment
dave_dube 10 Posted December 8, 2006 Yes Maggie, exactly my thoughts. I didn't want to loose the background at all and yet the lone berry was left in for balance since the tips of the background branches lean to the left upper corner also. You've given me an idea to work on tonight. I'm just going to move the berry and part of the curved branch down some, at least into the lighter background shadow. If it looks any good, I'll post the thumbnail for you to take a look. Thanks, Dave Link to comment
mmmee 0 Posted December 8, 2006 On viewing my cropped version again, it looks too cramped compared to your original. Let me know when you have your re-worked one added here. :) Link to comment
dave_dube 10 Posted December 9, 2006 Could spend a little more time with this but you'll get the idea. Link to comment
dave_dube 10 Posted December 11, 2006 Thanks Kim! As I've mentioned in the past, other than the basic adjustments to the RAW files that are classified as non manipulating, my photos are untouched. My thinking is that I need to improve as a photographer first and foremost. Now, a true photographer (one who plans the scene and sets the scene) would probably have cut that banch off.Regards, Dave Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted December 12, 2006 What! Destroying nature instead of simply manipulating the image?? I'm appalled :~)...editing is half the fun, to me. Link to comment
mmmee 0 Posted December 16, 2006 Yes, I like this version. It seems more balanced to me, somehow. I want to try to get it right 'in camera' too. Its more challenging than clicking the mouse. But, I agree, the photoshopping can be fun. To make it look natural and real takes skill with the photo editor, too. Link to comment
