glenn norris 0 Posted November 25, 2006 I will contribute - yearning is a good way to ask... I like the image plenty - the composition is great, the texturing fine... all said, I would say you have done well enough although it just seems a little flat. The image does not really incorporate a broad range of lights to darks so there is nothing that really dazzles and directs the gaze. A light source from either side and some gradients at the edges would help to direct some... Hope I have helped - good luck Mark. Link to comment
richard hans 0 Posted November 25, 2006 Very nice flower shot with harmony color tones & great details, Mark, just lovely!!! Best regards. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted November 25, 2006 I think you were going for subtley here, but I wanted it punched up a bit, too, so took it into PS to see how it would look with more saturation/contrast. I then noticed the woman's face that I hadn't seen before! Interesting composition, Mark. I'll attach the bumped up version for comparison. I like the flower brighter, but prefer the background in your posting. Link to comment
markboyer 0 Posted November 25, 2006 I don't know about subtlety, but I was trying for an aged, washed-out look but never was really pleased with the result and felt it needed something - maybe it's a color bump. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted November 26, 2006 I do like the more washed out background in yours, but felt the flower needed a bit more brightness for some reason. Maybe you need to go the other way and make it even more washed out?? The colors of the flower are probably a little brighter than you'd want for an aged look. I don't know...lots of possibilities with this one, though. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted November 26, 2006 Give it a few weeks and go back to it...sometimes that helps. I really like the form of this shot. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted November 26, 2006 Well, I think I want to say I like the soft, subdued colors of this picture. I think the contrast is just right to reveal the delicate nature of these petals. Ragarding the face in the glass, I was wondering whether that's the vampire slayer. What's the context? Link to comment
markboyer 0 Posted November 26, 2006 Thanks for the comments. That is Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but there really is no context except that the flower was in her glass. So her picture provided the title for no logical or contextual reason except that I miss her and the show. Link to comment
dave_dube 10 Posted November 27, 2006 I like the original! Oh Mark, can you take a picture of Buffy on the glass. Regards, Dave Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted November 27, 2006 Mark, thanks for the background info. I was not familiar with Buffy glasses, but now I understand how it all hangs together. Anyway, though I never saw a single episode while the show was running, during the past year a colleague has supplied me with all five seasons on DVD, and I must say I've enjoyed them a lot. cherlyn 1 Posted November 30, 2006 I kind of like this wash-out aged look. Something different from the vibrancy in most flower shots. Link to comment
