This shot didn't do well in the ratings.

These musicians and others, started turning up at the bar and

playing, they were great fun to listen to. I used iso-1600, f4,

1/15th. No flash, it would have been very intrusive. It's a bit of a

no-win situation, either the light gets burned out or the faces have

no shadow detail, but I think it's a good moment and very evocative.

What do you think?

Definitely a great moment Peter, you are right. I wonder if a bounced flash would have been so intrusive? The advantage is that it fills in the shadows and also does not blind the subject in the process. I like the framing which helps give context to the picture, but moving just a little to the left may have also allowed you to include some of the face of the subject in the foreground. Of course all these ifs are easy to being up afterwards ... still a nice shot.

Hello John, thanks for your comments. Here is the guitarist. The yellow shirt is one of the reasons I went BW.

Best wishes. Peter

Dear Peter:

In this particular case, I think having film grain from a true silver-halide ISO-1600 film would add a bit charm to this picture.

Really like the fact that you have captured the mood for this moment!

I am just thinking out loud here: how about crop the left edge a bit to remove distraction from the reflection off the door?
