Dave, I like the work and play concept here, and it is very nicely done. There's the elevated goal and the sinking fence. And it looks like a watercolor with the bright light on the foliage. I like the Mining Town Dreams title. Yea, this is good.

I think you would have really loved this site. Not a human around, and a whole town abandoned, as well as all of the mine paraphenalia. This hoop is actually from a later period after the mine was closed. (I think) But to me it is so cool. In combination with the gritiness of the mining, it can stand as a symbol for the manner in which humans seek fun even under the most dire of consequences.

New Idria, California. A ghost town and an old mercury mining town.

If you like this type of photo, I have a presentation based on this

fabulously interesting place on my portfolio.

The angle you chose to shoot the basketball hoop by positioning it against the trees with the old building peeking out behind is perfect! This looks like such a wonderful place to go shoot photos, I can see why you return there. We shoot photos for the same reason those men shot hoops, to let our minds relax and take us away from our mundane lives. Happy Turkey Day! oops, now there's an oxymoron...is a dead turkey a happy turkey!? There's lots to be thankful for.

Thanks to you once again. No, I don't suppose it is much of a great day for a turkey, but it is a great one for me. We are in Monterey, staying at my father-in-laws, with my son, his wife and my two super grandchildren. Later, we are going to a real feast at the country club. It doesn't get much better than that. Hope you have an equally great day.

I love your images from the old mining town and I'd love to visit it someday. It truly sounds like a place for my kind of photography. Monterey is also my kind of place, or I should say that Pacific Grove is my favorite part of that area. I've spent many an enjoyable vacation there and plan to do so more in the future. Why, my favorite girl and I even had a picnic on the 9th hole of the Pebble Beach green when no one was looking: a little wine, a little cheese with crackers and the pounding surf at our side. Ahhhh...

I'd like to see more sharpness in the net and backboard.

Happy Thanksgiving. I agree with you about the picture. I have to tell you that I am still not very competent with my D200. I love it greatly, but I have so much to learn. I will never be a really good technician, as I prefer to emote and lose myself within the image, rather than think about details and camera settings. I know that is not always a good thing, but I am a bit old to be learning new ways. At any rate, I had a pretty good understanding of the camera workings when I was doing film. But now, it has become far more difficult with this camera and its multitude of settings. I continue to read the manual that came with it (not a very good learning tool IMHO) and my friend Mr. De Santa Anna sent me some helpful materials as well. So all this is to say that I should get better, and may be producing some more tecnically competent photos in the future.

I agree with you about this area. Monterey and Pacific Grove are great places (at least when the traffic is not too bad) and I love to visit. Come on down. I have a friend that has a townhouse on the beach in Monterey and he is very generous about sharing it. We'll go shoot some stuff.

Regards
