ciofalo 0 Posted November 21, 2006 Splendid choice of light. Simple but beautiful composition. Really very, very nice. Perhaps a bit more sky on top would give the cathedral more breath. Link to comment
pjmeade 12 Posted November 21, 2006 Hello Chris, I've only been to Wells once. Now I want to go back, this is very good, although I would like to see it straightened a little. Regards. Pete Link to comment
chrisspracklen 0 Posted November 21, 2006 Many thanks for the comment ~ it's always good to hear from you. I'm curious, however, as to how you would like to see this building "straightened". I've just opened up the hi-res version from which I took it and dragged Photoshop's guide lines onto every horizontal and vertical ~ and they're all dead straight. It may help to know that that the left edge of the cathedral may not look perfectly straight because it narrows in one or two places on the way up. Best regards, Chris Link to comment
williammccarey 0 Posted November 21, 2006 Magnificent lighting. I agree that more sky would have helped the soaring of the towers. At first glance I also thought the building was not vertical. But using my computer screen, I realize the walls are straight. You are correct in that the towers stepping back as they go up create the illusion of a tilt. A terrific photograph! Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted November 21, 2006 Chris, nice light. Straightening is a vexed question where the ultimate answer is 'what looks right is right'. The trouble then is that in processing it we are looking so closely we lose the ability to be objective. I find the only cure is to leave it, come back and try again in a day or two. In this case the ground slopes down to the right and also the eye expects to see a little convergence in the towers as the camera has to be pointing upwards. Tricky though. regards Colin Link to comment
